International Journalist Specializing in Latin American Migration and Displacement

Shandra Back is a fourth-year undergraduate student at Boston University, studying Journalism in the College of Communications and Kilachand Honors College, with a minor in Political Science. Her work focuses on immersive, narrative-driven storytelling that explores the human side of political and migration issues. She is particularly interested in how politics and displacement intersect, and her reporting often highlights the personal stories behind broader global crises.

Shandra’s interest in migration and forced displacement has led her to report from regions including the Middle East, Latin America, and the U.S.–Mexico border. She also hosts a travel podcast, Sunshine on a Dime, which was recognized as a nominee for the 2022 Best College Podcast by the Intercollegiate Broadcasting Society. Currently, she works as the Podcast Director at the CFD Center, where she helps produce and share stories that connect policy to lived experiences.
Through her work, Shandra aims to bring attention to the human impact of political and social issues, offering a platform for voices that might otherwise go unheard.
